PlayStation in 2026: PS5 Pro Prices, PS Plus and the Next Generation

Higher console prices, a pricier PS Plus and a successor Sony will not yet date. What is confirmed, and what is only speculation.

PlayStation enters the 2026 holidays with the largest audience of this console generation, the highest hardware prices it has ever charged and a successor that Sony confirms it is investing in but will not date. Here is what is confirmed, checked against Sony's own announcements and results as of 1 November 2026.

PS5 and PS5 Pro: the new prices

On 27 March 2026 Sony announced on the PlayStation Blog that console prices would rise from 2 April, citing "continued pressures in the global economic landscape". The recommended prices since then:

  • PS5 with disc drive: $649.99, €649.99, £569.99 or ¥97,980.
  • PS5 Digital Edition: $599.99, €599.99, £519.99 or ¥89,980.
  • PS5 Pro: $899.99, €899.99, £789.99 or ¥137,980.
  • PlayStation Portal remote player: $249.99, €249.99 or £219.99.

Demand has held up regardless. Sony reported 95.3 million PS5 units shipped worldwide by 30 June 2026 and 125 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network.

PS Plus: what changed

From 20 May 2026 Sony raised PS Plus prices for new and returning subscribers in many regions. In the US the one-month plans now cost $10.99 for Essential, $16.99 for Extra and $19.99 for Premium, and the three-month plans also went up. Active subscriptions keep their price while they renew, and 12-month plans were left unchanged in most markets, which makes the annual plan the sensible choice if you play every week.

The next PlayStation: what Sony has actually said

Sony has not announced a PlayStation 6. On its May 2026 earnings call it said its forecasts include investment in a "next-generation platform". Asked about timing, Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki said: "We have not yet decided on at what timing we will launch the new console, or at what prices." He added that memory prices are expected to stay very high in fiscal 2027 and that Sony must think carefully about its plans.

In a year of rising component costs, the console you own is worth more than the one nobody has announced.

Launch years and prices you read elsewhere are analyst estimates or press reports, not Sony guidance. Treat them that way until Sony says otherwise.

What to do now

  • Already own a PS5? There is no official reason to wait for new hardware; spend on games, storage or a better screen.
  • Choosing a model: the Pro earns its price on a large 4K TV; the standard PS5 remains the value pick.
  • Buy PS Plus annually and watch for official PlayStation Store promotions.
  • Check direct.playstation.com or authorised retailers, as prices vary by country.

Key takeaways

  • Since 2 April 2026 the PS5 Pro costs $899.99, €899.99 or £789.99.
  • PS Plus monthly plans rose for new members from 20 May 2026.
  • Sony had shipped 95.3 million PS5 consoles by 30 June 2026.
  • Sony has not decided the timing or price of its next console.
