Seventeen months after launch, Nintendo Switch 2 remains the fastest-selling console Nintendo has made, and it now costs more than it did on day one. Here is the state of play, from Nintendo's own results and announcements, as of 1 November 2026.
Sales: the numbers
- 23.68 million Switch 2 consoles sold worldwide by 30 June 2026, according to Nintendo.
- More than 58 million Switch 2 games sold by the same date.
- Nintendo forecasts 16.5 million Switch 2 units for the fiscal year ending March 2027, below the launch year.
- Nintendo's next results, covering July to September, are expected in early November.
The price rise
In May 2026 Nintendo announced the first Switch 2 price increase, citing rising component prices, particularly memory, and tariffs. In the US the console went from $449.99 to $499.99 on 1 September 2026, and in Europe from €469.99 to €499.99 on the same day; in Japan it rose from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980 on 25 May. Nintendo Switch Online also became more expensive in Japan from 1 July, while US and European subscription prices did not change.
The best Switch 2 games, by the numbers
Nintendo's own sales figures are a useful guide to what people actually play:
- Mario Kart World: 15.39 million copies, the system's defining game.
- Donkey Kong Bananza: 4.77 million, a 3D platformer built around smashing the world apart.
- Pokémon Legends: Z-A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: 3.99 million.
- Pokémon Pokopia: 3.68 million, a 2026 exclusive.
- Kirby Air Riders: 1.90 million, made for local multiplayer nights.
What comes next
The September 2026 Nintendo Direct set the calendar. Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy arrives on 12 November 2026. Metroid Ravenous, a new 2D Metroid, follows on 28 January 2027, then Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition on 25 February 2027 and Kirby and the World Beyond, a 3D open-world Kirby, in spring 2027. A Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Switch 2 Edition is also coming, without a date yet, and Nintendo keeps adding free updates to Mario Kart World.
Nintendo still sells hardware the old-fashioned way: with games you cannot play anywhere else.
Is it worth buying now?
- Yes, if you want Nintendo's own games: they remain exclusive to its hardware.
- Add the Expansion Pack only if you will use the retro libraries, including GameCube classics on Switch 2.
- Budget for a microSD Express card: Switch 2 needs that format to store games.
- Prices differ by country, so check Nintendo's official store before you buy.
