Sports games run on a calendar as fixed as the seasons they mirror: college football in July, the NFL in August, basketball in early September and football at the end of the month. If you are still playing EA Sports FC 26, NBA 2K26 or Madden NFL 26, the new editions are already out. Here is the verified line-up as of 1 November 2026, checked against EA Sports and 2K.

Last year: the 26 editions

  • EA Sports College Football 26: released on 10 July 2025.
  • Madden NFL 26: released on 14 August 2025.
  • NBA 2K26: released on 5 September 2025.
  • EA Sports FC 26: released on 26 September 2025, with Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala on the covers.

This year: the 27 editions

  • EA Sports College Football 27 (9 July 2026): on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and, for the first time in the series, PC.
  • Madden NFL 27 (13 August 2026): on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with PC players choosing between Steam and the Epic Games Store.
  • NBA 2K27 (4 September 2026): on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2; Victor Wembanyama is on the standard cover, with Caitlin Clark and Derrick Rose on the special editions.
  • EA Sports FC 27 (25 September 2026): Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham, Real Madrid teammates, share the Ultimate Plus cover; it runs on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, Switch 2 and PC.
The best sports game of the year is the one that gets two friends on the same sofa.

Do you need to upgrade every year?

Not necessarily. Each edition updates rosters, licences and modes, and online ultimate-team modes start again with every release, which is why committed online players move each year. If you mostly play offline career or franchise modes, skipping a year can be perfectly reasonable: check what has actually changed in the mode you play before you buy.

How to play them well

  • Choose one sport and one mode: career, franchise and ultimate team each demand very different amounts of time.
  • Set a spending limit for ultimate-team modes before you start, and stick to it.
  • Look for trials before paying full price; EA Play has traditionally offered early trials of EA's sports games.
  • Play local multiplayer: a sofa match with a friend is still the best way to enjoy any of them.

For racing fans, the F1 25 2026 Season Pack fills the same role this year, since EA skipped a new F1 game. The next cycle of 28 editions has not been announced yet, so the current games are the ones to play through the 2026-27 seasons.

Key takeaways

  • College Football 27 (9 July), Madden NFL 27 (13 August), NBA 2K27 (4 September) and FC 27 (25 September) are all out.
  • College Football 27 is the first in the series on PC.
  • Wembanyama fronts NBA 2K27; Mbappé and Bellingham share the FC 27 Ultimate Plus cover.
  • Offline players can often skip a year; ultimate-team players usually move with each edition.
