Pickleball 2026 So Far: Waters Rules, Haworth Rises, New Jersey Finally Wins

Pickleball's pro game grew up fast, and 2026 showed it. The biggest names still win most of the biggest titles, but singles has a new face, team pickleball has a new champion, and the paddles themselves face a stricter test. Here is the season so far, from the desert in January to Central Park in August. The pro calendar now runs on two main stages: the PPA Tour, with individual events across the United States and abroad, and Major League Pickleball, where franchises compete as mixed-gender teams.

The PPA's two biggest stages

  • Carvana Masters, Rancho Mirage, January. Chris Haworth beat former tennis pro Jack Sock 11-8, 11-8 for the men's singles title. Anna Leigh Waters beat Kate Fahey 11-1, 11-4, then added women's doubles with Anna Bright and mixed with Ben Johns, who also took men's doubles with Gabe Tardio.
  • PPA Finals, San Clemente, May. The season-ending event went largely to the top seeds. Haworth beat John Lucian Goins 11-2, 11-8; Fahey beat Brooke Buckner 11-0, 11-9; Johns and Tardio beat Andrei Daescu and Federico Staksrud 11-8, 11-3, 11-0; Waters and Bright, and Waters and Johns, won the other two doubles finals.

Team pickleball: a first crown

Major League Pickleball's championship weekend in Central Park ended with the New Jersey 5s beating the St. Louis Shock for the franchise's first title, after losing the final by a single match in both 2024 and 2025. Both championship matches went to a DreamBreaker. Staksrud, acquired from Orlando before the trade deadline, was named the first MLP Finals MVP, and Waters won her first MLP title.

The stars still win. What changed in 2026 is how many new names now make them work for it.

The autumn swing and a new rule

The new PPA season has started in familiar fashion, with Johns and Tardio winning men's doubles at the Pickleball National Championships in September, though the field is pushing back: Staksrud and Hayden Patriquin won the Chicago Cup, and Christian Alshon and Daescu won in Arizona and Las Vegas. Off court, USA Pickleball began measuring spin directly: paddles certified from 1 October must come in under 2,100 RPM in its new test.

What to watch

  • Whether Haworth's singles run continues against a deepening men's field.
  • How the spin-rate standard shapes new paddle launches.
  • The rest of the PPA autumn calendar, and team rosters ahead of next MLP season.

Key takeaways

  • Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns swept the big doubles titles at the PPA Masters and Finals.
  • Chris Haworth won men's singles at both the Masters and the PPA Finals.
  • New Jersey 5s won their first MLP title in Central Park; Federico Staksrud was Finals MVP.
  • USA Pickleball introduced a spin-rate test for newly certified paddles from 1 October.
