Test the Offer Before Building the Business
Replace an impressive launch plan with a small, honest test of demand.

Write a Claim You Can Challenge
Define the customer, the problem and the moment when that problem becomes expensive or frustrating. Avoid descriptions broad enough to include everyone. Then state what your offer would do, what it would not do and why someone might choose it over their current workaround. Speak with potential customers about recent behaviour rather than asking whether your idea sounds good. Ask how they handled the problem last time, who approved spending and what made the process difficult. Treat your explanation as a hypothesis to examine, not a pitch that every conversation must validate.
Sell the Smallest Honest Version
Choose a test you can deliver without building the full operation: a manually delivered service, a limited workshop or a clearly described pilot. Be transparent about what exists and what remains experimental. If taking deposits or pre-orders, explain delivery dates, cancellation terms and refunds, and meet applicable consumer and privacy requirements. A landing page can test whether people respond to a message, but clicks alone do not establish willingness to pay. Where possible, invite a meaningful next step such as a paid pilot or a concrete purchasing discussion.
- Ask about a recent real purchase or workaround.
- Track commitments separately from expressions of interest.
- Record delivery costs, including your own time.
Decide Before the Results Arrive
Set a budget, a time limit and a decision rule before you begin. Decide what evidence would justify another test and what would make you stop or change direction. Record who responded, whether they fit the intended customer and what the test actually measured. A handful of enthusiastic friends is not the same as repeatable demand from independent buyers. Include delivery effort, support and refunds when reviewing the economics. The outcome need not be a dramatic yes or no; a useful test may reveal a narrower customer group or a problem worth solving differently.
Build enough to learn whether anyone wants the next version.
À retenir

- Distinguish compliments from concrete buying behaviour.
- Set a spending cap and decision rule before starting.
