Start With Your Actual Misses
A productive session begins with a question, not a driver. Think back over your last round: where did you lose strokes through penalties, repeated chips or poor distance control? Pick one recurring problem you can reasonably practice today. You do not need a complete swing reconstruction every time you visit the range.
Warm up gradually with comfortable swings and shorter clubs. Give yourself a clear target and notice contact before adding speed. If a technical change is necessary, keep it simple or ask a qualified coach to help you identify the cause.
Practice the Shots Near the Hole
On the practice green, separate distance control from starting direction. Roll longer putts toward a broad finishing zone, then practice short putts with a consistent setup and a specific start line. Read each putt rather than automatically scraping another ball into place.
For chipping, use one club initially and explore how landing spots change the result. Try different lies when the facility permits it. Notice how much green you have available and choose a shot you can repeat, rather than assuming every recovery needs height or spin.
- Choose one priority before buying range balls.
- Alternate longer lag putts with short starting-line work.
- Finish with one ball, one target and a full routine.
Finish With a Rehearsal Round
End by playing imaginary holes. Pick a fairway, hit one tee shot, then choose an approach club based on the result you imagine. Change targets and use your normal routine. This does not reproduce course pressure completely, but it stops the comfort of repetition from becoming your only practice skill.
Keep a brief note afterward: your main miss, the adjustment you tried and what deserves another session. Judge progress over several rounds rather than one impressive bucket. A practice plan earns its place when it supports decisions you can actually use on the course.
Practice should prepare your next decision, not just polish your last swing.
À retenir
- Choose practice priorities from your own recent rounds.
- Finish range work by changing target and club between shots.
- Rehearse both putting distance and short-putt starting lines.
